DID YOU KNOW? |
That quirky movie, U-Turn was based
on a novel written by an African- American?
John Ridley, an African American writer who
got his start as a stand up comic in NYC, has
written for several sitcoms including Martin,
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and The John
Larroquette Show. Oliver Stone directed the
film version of Ridley's first novel, Stray Dogs under

- SHAFT
- blackfilm.com applauds John Singleton
and Paramount for bringing Shaft back
to life for more Americans to enjoy.
But did they make a good movie?
By Shelby Jones
- LOVE AND BASKETBALL SCORES BIG TIME!
- Basketball films have been entertaining us for years.
There was Hoosiers, He Got Game, Above The Rim
and many more, but rarely have we seen a film that investigates
the lives of African-American teenagers from the burbs who've
got game just like the kids from the streets.

- GLADIATOR - Honor & Strength
- Gladiator captures Rome in its glory days
and shows us how they handled things before
the days of boxing gloves and the WWF.

FROM THE VIDEO VAULT |
[All Reviews]
- Cornbread, Earl, and Me
- With the Police brutality issue being thrust into the national spotlight once
again, and the recent acquittal of the four New York City Police officers who
gunned down unarmed African immigrant,
Amadou Diallo, this film is still quite pertinent today.

- SHAFT
- Does Samuel L. look like a bad mother&*^&%# or what? When we heard about this
production, we were excited for the black community. For many of us, Shaft
was THE FIRST black-male character who was a good guy and bad-ass at the same time.
Screen images cannot be underestimated in the effect that they can have on the perception and
imagination of its viewers. For us, we were like, damn, I wanna kick butt like Shaft
and I don't have to be a dope dealer to do it! Fasten your belts, tuck your head between
your legs and get ready for Shaft…JOHN SHAFT!

- AMERICAN PIMP

arrest” for looking at another pimp. Now the Hughes Brothers are
tackling the issue withAmerican Pimp. So grab some pimp gear
and check it out! Please note that blackfilm.com is not
condoning the use of the word Hoe!
