Let the Battle for Box Office Supremacy Begin

While Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets may have slaughtered the competition in its first week, the film faces a bigger foe at the box office this week as James Bond comes back to the big screen with Halle Berry in tow in Die Another Day. Ice Cube need not worry about getting a piece of the box office pie as his films are usually financially successful and he should have another one in Friday After Next. Keep in mind that Eminem's film 8 Mile is still drawing huge crowds. While Ja Rule fights to stay alive in Half Past Dead, the Funk Brothers are feeling alive with their music in Standing in the Shadows of Motown. And speaking of music, stayed tuned as Drumline comes marching our way in a few weeks.

Till next time,

Die Another Day (Film)
If there was ever a film that we could count on to entertain us and take our minds away from the real world, it’s a Bond film. For over 20 years the franchise has never stopped giving the audience what they expect from an action film.

Friday After Next (Film)
The opening animated credit sequence of “Friday After Next” is quite impressive. Ghetto-swank and clever, it sets a tone of comedic savvy that unfortunately never pays off. It falls very short of funny, as do most of the film’s jokes.

'R Xmas (Indie)
There was a time when Director Abel Ferrara had made decent films if not good (King of New York, Bad Lieutenant, and New Rose Hotel). But lately, his vision has been clouded. His latest film, ‘R Xmas, is dull, clichéd, and short.

Standing in the Shadows of Motown (Indie)
Standing in the Shadows of Motown puts the Funk Brothers where they should be - out in the forefront of our memories of Motown and definitely in the spotlight of music history.

Half Past Dead (Film)
Considering the genre, Half Past Dead ain't half bad. Anymore, and I'd be ruining the movie-going experience for you.

Strange Fruit (Indie)
STRANGE FRUIT is a film that should be seen by those who want to learn about the American past.

Frida (Film)
The film is a homage to both Frida Kahlo, the temperamental, full of life-in the face of death woman; and Frida Kahlo, the dark, mythically surreal artist.
