According to the California newspaper Tahoe Daily Tribune, film production for the comedy-action movie, Smokin' Aces", began this week in Stateline and South Lake Tahoe, California and by all indications not only are things good on the set but off as well.

Directed by Joe Carnahan, the cast includes Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Pivens, Ray Liotta, Taraji P. Hanson, rapper Common, and making her big screen debut, Grammy-award R&B singer Alicia Keys.

An FBI agent (Ryan Reynolds) hunts for a Las Vegas stand up comedian and mobster named Buddy Israel (Jeremy Piven) who has decided to squeal on the mob but, before he heads off for protective custody, decides to go to the casinos at Lake Tahoe for one last good time, drawing a crowd of federal agents, bail bondsmen, aging mobsters and professional assassins (Affleck and Keys). Garcia will play the FBI director who tries to keep the cocky entertainer around long enough to testify. Liotta had starred in Carnahan's previous film, "Narc". Universal Pictures and Working Title will release the film in 2006.
