THE 6th ANNUAL FEST AFRIQUE 360
OPENING NIGHT SELECTIONS FOR THE AGORA LUMIERE CINEMA SERIES
DURING CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 2006 Announced

Beverly Hills, CA (May 1, 2006) – The 6th Annual Fest Afrique 360 today announced the 2006 opening night selections for its acclaimed Agora Lumiere Cinema Series to be held during the 59th Annual Cannes Film Festival and Market. The four-day event will take place on May 21-25, 2006 in Cannes, France. Fest Afrique 360, which will screen 10 films this year, continues its commitment to exceptional filmmakers of African descent by providing a world stage for their compelling and innovative stories.

This year's opening night selections showcase the creative diversity of black film from around the world. Director Charles Randolph Wright’s PREACHING TO THE CHOIR, starring Adewele Akkinuoye-Agbaje and Eartha Kitt, has been selected as the opening night feature. This international debut will be preceded by the world premiere of Fest Afrique 360’s first ever short film selection: writer/director Ava DuVernay’s SATURDAY NIGHT LIFE, starring Melissa De Sousa.

Event executives Marc Nekaitar and Rashid Bahati: “We are thrilled to host a dynamic slate of films that reflect the energy and elasticity of African cinema from around the globe. These fine pictures have been selected to illustrate the varied and rich textures of the black film experience. We thank the many artists who will share their work with us this year.”
