Forest Whitaker has signed on to co-star in the Pete Travis-helmed thriller "Vantage Point" for Columbia Pictures. Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox and William Hurt already have boarded the project. Penned by Barry Levy, the story chronicles an attempt to assassinate the U.S. president in Madrid and is told from five points of view, unfolding in 15-minute increments. Whitaker will play an American tourist who captures video footage of the would-be assassin. Neal Moritz is producing through his Sony-based Original Film shingle, while Original's Tania Landau is executive producing. Sony's Andrea Giannetti is overseeing the project for the studio. Whitaker has generated Emmy buzz for his seasonlong stint on FX's "The Shield," playing the nemesis of Michael Chiklis' character. The actor also has garnered advance praise for his turn as Idi Amin in the upcoming drama "The Last King of Scotland." He recently wrapped Jieho Lee's ensemble drama "The Air I Breathe" and is voicing a character in Spike Jonze's "Where the Wild Things Are." Whitaker is repped at WMA and the Collective.
