The Next Generation of Kids Animated Specials on TV and DVD

THE WAYANS FAMILY PRESENTS…THUGABOO SNEAKER MADNESS

Inspired by their own childhood experiences, funnymen Shawn, Marlon and Keenen Ivory Wayans lend their unique comedic touch to Thugaboo, a hilariously heart-warming series of kids animated specials debuting on DVD August 29, 2006 from Warner Home Video following Nickelodeon primetime broadcasts in mid-August. In the tradition of “Charlie Brown” and “Fat Albert,” Thugaboo takes a humorous look at the trials and tribulations of nine very different kids. Boasting an impressive all-star voice cast, Shawn and Marlon Wayans are joined by sister Kim Wayans (“In Living Color”), Michael Rapaport (“Dr. Doolittle 2”), George Gore II (“My Wife & Kids”), Aries Spears (“Mad TV”), David Alan Grier (“Life With Bonnie”) and Charlie Murphy (“Chappelle’s Show”).

Written and produced by the Wayans brothers, the first special entitled The Wayans Family Presents…Thugaboo Sneaker Madness, is a back-to-school story with a timely lesson for young viewers.  Featuring cool, contemporary original music that both kids and adults will enjoy, the main character D-Roc struggles to prepare for a new school term within his mother’s limited budget.  In the process, he learns that it’s not what you wear on the outside, but who you are on the inside that matters most.  Subsequent Thugaboo specials will premiere on television and be released on home video in the coming months. 

Thugaboo is The Wayans Family’s homegrown moniker for kids who may appear hard on the outside, but are simply soft, normal, curious children on the inside.  Through their friendships and adventures growing up in “Boo York City”, D-Roc and his pals learn valuable lessons about everything from the importance of family to maintaining self-esteem and pursuing one’s goals.

The DVD features special bonus material including an entertaining behind-the-scenes featurette of the Wayans family discussing the evolution of their first animated project, with in-depth character profiles and anecdotes.  Each special also includes a themed music video, extending the educational life lessons into memorable songs.  The DVD will include English and Spanish audio and subtitles.
