Universal Pictures has locked Martin Lawrence to star in Malcolm Lee's "The Better Man" and set a March start date for the comedy. Lawrence will play a single father who has just made it big as an outrageous syndicated talkshow host. When he returns home to attend the 50th anniversary of his parents with his famous fiancee, he begins to question his path in life. "There's emotion and pathos here that give Martin a chance to display more layers than usual," Lee said. Lawrence, who's coming off "Big Momma's House 2," most recently completed "Wild Hogs" with Tim Allen and John Travolta and voiced a character in the animated hit "Open Season." He'll next exec produce a standup comedy series for Starz that has a 10-episode commitment. Lawrence is repped by UTA and Michael Green. Lee's previous films include "Roll Bounce", "Undercover Brother", and "The Best Man".
