JLA update
Derek Luke wants a crack at the the Green Lantern role?

There's been so many rumors out there as to who will play which superhero in the upcoming JLA (Justice League of America) film. I'm not going to go over who's been mentioned and what's the latest news on the production, but I will talk about the role of the Green Lantern, since it will be played by a Black actor in the role of John Stewart. As far as I know, Tyrese and Common have been heavily mentioned and could easily take the part, but while speaking to Derek Luke on his recent role in "Lions for Lambs', I did bring up the JLA film and would he consider putting on the green outfit. Luke is currently in Italy shooting Spike Lee's war film, 'Miracle at St. Anna', so his chances of coming in for auditions are getting slim by the day, but then again, with this WGA strike, luck may be on his side.

With casting getting under way for the JLA film and the role of Green Lantern (John Stewart) being a Black character, why haven't you taken a crack at it?

Derek Luke: You know what? That's one of my favorite characters.

Really? Why so?

DL: Because one, he's a black superhero and loved by many. It's funny. This past weekend, in Lucca, Tuscany (Italy), there was a comic convention and there were all these comics and there was a booth specifically set up for Green Lantern, and I found out about the Green Lantern because there was a guy who's a fan and set up a web page and took some of my movies and made a trailer of the Green Lantern. I was so impressed. I use a term 'Baby Jump' and this is like my dreamjump. It was so exciting.

If given the opportunity to play the role in a film like 'JLA', would you do it?

DL: I would jump with his powers right on it.

The trailer that the fan made is on youtube
