THE 39th NAACP IMAGE AWARDS NOMINATIONS

Source: Variety

January 8, 2008

“The Great Debaters” led the way Tuesday with eight nominations, including feature film, for the 39th NAACP Image Awards, which honor diversity in film, television, music and literature.
“Talk to Me,” “American Gangster,” “I Am Legend” and “Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married?” are also nommed for best picture.

The CW was the big winner in the TV comedy categories, with skeins “Everybody Hates Chris” and “Girlfriends” picking up more than a dozen mentions. The TV drama category was wide open -- more than 16 shows drew noms in the acting, directing and writing categories.

Up for dramatic series are “Grey’s Anatomy,” “House,” “K-Ville,” “Lincoln Heights” and “The Unit.” In comedy, “30 Rock,” “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” and “Ugly Betty” join “Chris” and “Girlfriends” with noms.

Perry’s film and TV projects grabbed seven mentions, including his own supporting actor nom for “Why Did I Get Married?”

Up for album of the year are Alicia Keys’ “As I Am,” Chris Brown’s “Exclusive,” Kanye West’s “Graduation,” Mary J. Blige’s “Growing Pains” and Seal’s “System.”

Stevie Wonder will be this year’s inductee into the NAACP Image Awards’ hall of fame.

Kudocast will air live on Fox on Feb. 14.
