PURE SHOOTER casting news Lynn Whitfield, who will be starring in the upcoming 'Mama, I Want To Singer' with singer Ciara, has just signed on star opposite former singer Christopher Williams in the indie film 'Pure Shooter.'
According to Moviehole.net, the drama follows a young man with incredible basketball skills who barely survives segregation, racism and an abusive father. Michael Rooker has been cast as the young man's basketball coach.
Also featured in the film are Clifton Powell, Desiree Coleman, and Michael Rooker. Producing the film will be World Film Magic & Sky 21 Productions
Williams hasn't had a major film role since he appeared as Kareem Akbar in 'New Jack City' back in 1991. According to wikipedia, he has also starred or co-starred in several successful off Broadway theatre productions during the 2000s, including A Good Man is Hard to Find, A House is Not a Home, and The Man He Used To Be. Recently, Williams played a main character in the stage play Men Cry In The Dark written by Michael Baisden and played alongside actors Allen Payne and Richard Roundtree. As well as plays titled Guilty Until Proven Innocent staring K-Ci and JoJo and The Man of Her Dreams staring Shirley Murdock and Musiq Soul Child.
Powell, who appears in as many films as Samuel L. Jackson, is currently on the big screen in 'Street Kings' with Forest Whitaker and Keanu Reeves. He's slated to play Mr. Magic in the indie film on the Juice Crew, 'The Vapors'.
Directed by Neema Barnette ('Civil Brand') and penned by Robert Rugger, Gregory Jones and Robert Noll, 'Pure Shooter' begins filming next month in Durham, North Carolina. |
