10 Sistas To Look Out For This Summer 2008

10 Sistas To Look Out For This Summer 2008
Jennifer Hudson, Gabrielle Union, Naomie Harris, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey, Sanaa Hamri, Keke Palmer, Tasha Smith, Jill Marie Jones, and Meagan Good are this summer lineup of films

With 'Iron Man' making a killing at the box office and other potential blockbusters to follow such as 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian' and 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', this is like every other summer, dominated by too many highly male testosterone films. With the exception of 'Sex and the City: The Movie', there aren't that many films where the female stands out, let alone any African American one. Even Queen Latifah had a cameo role in 'What Happens in Vegas'. Earlier this year we saw Raven Symone in a prominent role in 'College Road Trip', and Angela Bassett in 'Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns'. There were others with good roles, but if you had to count how many films, all you need is one hand.

Here’s a look at the African American women that will be seen in some of these summer films.

Naomie Harris stars along with Josh Hartnett in 'August' (JULY 11)

'August' is the story of two brothers, Tom and Joshua Sterling (Josh Hartnett and Adam Scott) whose Internet start-up, Landshark, is as hot as a New York City summer – only this is the summer of 2001, their company is in lock up, its stock price is plunging and, in a few weeks, the world will change forever. For now Tom continues the hedonistic life of an Internet star, the kind of guy we might have seen profiled on 60 Minutes II: he dates multiple women, drives a bitchin' '69 Camaro convertible and hangs out at a new club called Bungalow 8. But, like an emo version of Patrick Bateman, it somehow never seems to matter that Tom is not quite able to explain what his company actually does.
