Last night, a star-studded crowded came out for the Broadway's opening night of August Wilson's Joe Turner' Come and Gone, which is playing at the Belasco Theatre (111 West 44 St)

Among the celebrities in attendance were Spike Lee, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Anderson, S. Epatha Merkerson, Julianne Moore, Bart Freundlich, Edie Falco, Paul Rudnick, Yaya DaCosta, Star Jones, Cookie Johnson, Pauletta Washington, Lynn Whitfield, Ebony Jo-Ann, Flo Anthony, Tamara Tunie and Gregory Generet, Woody King, Anthony Chisholm, Paul Butler, Richard Habersham, and Ruben Santiago-Hudson

Directed by Bartlett Sher, the cast of the show includes Marsha Stephanie Blake, Chad L. Coleman, Michael Cummings, Aunjanue Ellis, Danai Gurira, Andre Holland, Arliss Howard, Ernie Hudson, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Amari Rose Leigh, and Roger Robinson.

Set in the year 1911, this is the second play in August Wilson's towering 10-part, decade-by-decade account of African-American lives in Pittsburgh. The great migration of African-Americans from the farms of the South to the cities of the North is captured in this drama of folks passing through a Pittsburgh boarding house in 1911. One of them is on a special quest, to find a mystical "Shining Man." When a threatening stranger arrives, he suspects his quest may be at an end.
