Spike Lee's Party for Michael Jackson's 51st Birthday
in Prospect Park, Brooklyn

August 29, 2009

Despite the forecast for heavy rain, thousands of people turned out to celebrate what would have been Michael Jackson's 51st birthday at Brooklyn's Prospect Park on Saturday, August 28. Only a little drizzle had come down, but that didn't stop the music from playing. Thrown by director Spike Lee with DJ Spinna on the wheels, the music of the late pop star had many dancing and singing from 12 noon to 5pm.

Celebrities in attendance included Tracy Morgan, Free (former host of BET's 106 and Park), Jeffrey Wright and his wife/ actress Carmen Ejogo, Ed Lover, and the Rev. Al Sharpton.

There were plenty of Jackson impersonators wearing fedoras, white gloves, and signature jackets that Jackson had worn through the years.

Brooklyn borough president Marty Markowitz had declared the day Michael "King of Pop" Jackson Memorial Day.
