JOHN SINGLETON NEWS
Singleton to direct 'Twilight's Taylor Lautner in the Lionsgate thriller 'Abduction.'

March 26, 2010

Deadline is reporting that John Singleton has signed on to direct 'Twilight's Taylor Lautner in the Lionsgate thriller 'Abduction.'
'Abduction' follows a young man who finds out that his mother and father aren't his real parents, a discovery that rocks his world and leaves him running for his life.

The screenplay, written by Shawn Christensen, was purchased at an auction in January.
For Singleton, it's his first opportunity to get back into the director's chair since he did 'Four Brothers' in 2005. In the last few years, he's co-produced Craig Brewer's 'Hustle & Flow' and 'Black Snake Moan,' as well as Franc Reyes' 'Illegal Tender.'
Some of the projects that he wanted to direct such as the comic book adaptation of 'Luke Cage' and 'Black Panther' are still in limbo. In 2007, he was slated to direct Billy Bob Thornton and Halle Berry in 'Tulia,' but the Oscar winning actress became pregnant with her first child and the film was scrapped.

Following in the footstep of his 'Twilight' co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, Taylor is branching out from the franchise and this will be his first lead role in a film. Earlier this year, he had a supporting role with Grammy winning artist Taylor Swift in the romantic comedy, 'Valentine's Day.'

Production on 'Abduction' begins in July in Pittsburgh.
