Top Ten Films of 2002 Of the many films I have seen this year (over 250), these are the films I thought were the best of 2002. 12/20/2002
BET For all the haters and non-believers, (and I’d venture to say that we’ve all had our concerns regarding BET at one time or another), the 2nd Annual BET Awards was most assuredly a slam-dunk for Black Entertainment Television on every front. 07/26/2002
A letter from Malcolm D. Lee, director of Undercover Brother My name is Malcolm D. Lee and I am the director of the current film, UNDERCOVER BROTHER. BLACKPOPGO I love a good buddy picture. Growing up, I spent many a Sunday afternoon enraptured by the Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis flicks and, in a pinch, one of those Bing Crosby/Bob Hope road pics are a great way to pass a couple of hours. 01/25/2002
BLACKPOPGO They've remastered “Three Feet High & Rising.” De La Soul's seminal, artform-changing debut has gotten the whole "old album revision" treatment: remastering, extra CD with oddities and remixes, etc. De La's company, Tommy Boy, did a pretty good job on it. 01/11/2002

Blackpopgo : A Weekly Discussion Of Art, Politics, & Pop Culture And How It Affects The Black Diaspora...Or At Least One Member Of It BET. Black. Entertainment. Television. Boy, ain't that a big sloppy mess. I honestly have nothing to really add to all the criticism and scorn that have been heaped on the channel in the last couple of years.. 11/23/2001
Blackpopgo : A Weekly Discussion Of Art, Politics, & Pop Culture And How It Affects The Black Diaspora...Or At Least One Member Of It My mother is from a little town named Aliceville, AL. When you think "little Southern town", it's exactly what you think-dusty roads, inky black nights, flying bugs that seem too big to defy gravity, etc. Hot, oh, hoooooooot in the summer, that relentless, aggressive, angry type of heat that makes you sweat even when you're sitting still. 11/02/2001
WHO IS HOT? : BLACKFILM.COM SAYS LOOK OUT FOR THESE 22 PLAYERS The 2001 season has offered filmgoers a great opportunity to see many African-American stars flourish and 2002 will offer even more. During this year, we have observed many fine performances and we think it will be hard to disagree with the people we have chosen for this list. 10/19/2001
BLACKPOPGO In a way, it's Haile Gerima's fault. I went and saw the acclaimed writer/director of the film, “Sankofa” about six years ago and it changed my life. He was giving a lecture and an impromptu debate started about Black art and it's responsibility to the public. 10/19/2001
BLACKPOPGO For the blackfilm.com audience, we thought you would enjoy Vince’s weekly prose entitled,Blackpopgo: A Weekly Discussion Of Art, Politics, & Pop Culture And How It Affects The Black Diaspora...Or At Least One Member Of It. 10/19/2001
Special Summer Theatre Review : Top Dog/ Underdog The story is somewhat predicable but it's the acting that you will never forget. 09/07/2001
Film Duds : Attack of the Summer Blockbusters Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker teamed up for the second go ‘round of east meets west crime fighting in “Rush Hour 2,” and while the script offered little new and improved humor, the gags, explosions and suits were bigger, brighter and better. 08/10/2001
Special Summer Theatre Review : Blue With Ja Rule, Lil Zane, and Tyrese currently expanding their talent to the film industry, one has to wonder as to where are the real thespians. Well, look no further than to your local theater where some are working on their skills. 07/27/2001

Movie Rules - 9 thru 22 For rule Number Thirteen, I must pay homage to the original FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH - the simple rule is that it is the horror champ. Jason was never as scary as his knife-wielding deranged soccer mom. 04/13/2001
OK DEVELOPMENT FOLKS – STOP THERE – STOP RIGHT THERE! : A Lament for Scooby-Doo "One of those golden childhood memories is truly being destroyed by Hollywood. The implication of it can't help but boggle the mind." 03/16/2001

Black Velveteen With Black Velveteen, a brother is on a mission: not only to flip my own old school memories like a hoodrat folklorist, but also to put into perspective how much the revolutionary sound and visions of the Superfly-era is still living large in our imaginations today. 03/01/2001
Poppin Off on Pop Culture : This week's annoyance is The 43rd Annual Grammy Awards "Madonna looked good but will somebody make Lil' Bow Wow go away? And how can you produce that much attitude at such a young age? Why do you have to be that pissed off at that age? Maybe your ice cream fell off the cone or your having trouble reaching the next level on your Gameboy Pokemon?" 03/01/2001
Movie Rules - 1 thru 8 Even if the bad guy weighs 350lbs and is seven-feet tall, he will lose in a fist-fight to our 150lb hero…you do recall that Rocky beat Apollo Creed? 03/01/2001
Black Film Plus White Critics Equals Like you, I long for the day when this doesn't have to be explained. The day when films with black casts are assumed to be universal in theme and accessible in content. 05/01/2000
Ghetto Matrix This has spawned an industry of well paid pundits - people who do not live in the ghetto matrix, but report on it, theorize on it, analyze it and philosophize on it. There are two types only: Those that attack the inhabitants and those that defend the inhabitants. 05/01/2000
