While accepting the CinemaCon Visionary Award at the CinemaCon awards in Vegas last week, producer/ director/ actor Tyler Perry told Blackfilm.com that his next film, which is a non-Madea vehicle that he will direct, produce, and star in, would be ‘Good Deeds.’

“My next film is ‘Good Deeds.’ It’s a romantic comedy that I play the lead role in. It’s about a guy that’s torn between the girl he’s going to get married and a new girl that he just meets and he falls in love with. So that’s a little different for me.”

With his next film, ‘Tyler Perry’s ‘Madea’s Big Happy Family’ set for theatrical release on April 22, ‘Good Deeds’ is slated to start production on April 25 and Perry hopes to have the film released “Maybe in the fall.”

Since 2007, Perry has released at least two films per year. In 2010, he directed both ‘Why Did I Get Married Too?‘ and ‘For Colored Girls.’

In his non-Madea films, Perry has paired himself with Taraji P. Henson in ‘The Family That Preys,’ and Sharon Leal in ‘Why Did I Get Married?’ and its sequel ‘Why Did I Get Married Too?’

When asked if he cast the other roles in the film, he stated “Not quite. But it’s going to be nice.”

‘Deeds’ would be his second non-Madea starring role.

Perry is also set to star as the iconic Alex Cross in ‘I, Alex Cross,’ James Patterson’s origin tale of the detective/psychologist. The film is a reboot of the role popularized for moviegoers by Oscar winner Morgan Freeman (‘Kiss the Girls’ and ‘Along Came a Spider’).

“I’m very excited about ‘Alex Cross.’ I’m working out and taking ass kicking classes and all that other stuff to make sure that I’m on point for it. I’m taking acting classes and everything. So it’s going to be great.”

Filming on ‘Cross’ will start in June with Rob Cohen as its director.

Update: Variety has confirmed this news with a detailed plot.

Perry plays Glen Deeds, an affluent and successful entrepreneur who’s about to get married when he suddenly becomes enamored by a down-on-her-luck single mother (played by Thandie Newton) who rekindles a spark that seems to have faded with his uptown fiancé.

Also included in the cast are Brian White, Rebecca Romijn, Jamie Kennedy, Eddie Cibrian, Gabrielle Union, Beverly Johnson and Phylicia Rashad.
