Actor Laz Alonso is set to co-star as the male lead opposite Meagan Good in NBC’s drama pilot ‘Notorious,’ from Universal TV and BermanBraun.

Written by Liz Heldens, Notorious is described as an opulent soap in which detective Joanna Locasto (Good) returns undercover to the wealthy and troubled Lawson family she grew up in — as the housekeeper’s daughter — to solve the murder of celebutante Vivian Lawson, who was once her closest friend.

Alonzo will play NYPD detective Will Sacovitch who recruits former flame Joanna to infiltrate the Lawson home, in the hope of finding evidence that Vivian was murdered.

The Washington, D.C. native, who also appeared in four episodes of TNT’s ‘Southland’ during the 2010-2011 season, just bowed out of his last TV series, A & E’s ‘Breakout Kings’ after his character Deputy U.S. Marshal Charlie Duchamp was killed in action in the season 2 premiere.

On the big screen, Alonso is known for his role in playing Tsu’tey in James Cameron‘s blockbuster Avatar,’ as well as his roles in other films such as This Christmas,’ ‘Miracle at St. Anna, and Fast & Furious.’

Both Alonso and Good appeared in the same film, but never together, in 2007′s Stomp the Yardand in 2011′sJumping the Broom.’

The last time NBC had two African Americans in leading roles was the short-lived 2010 spy series ‘Undercovers,’ which starred Boris Kodjoe & Guba Mbatha-Raw. NBC officially pulled the plug after the show consistently produced dismal ratings. The show only aired 11 episodes.
