Nate Parker, who’s had a breakout year with appearances in ‘Red Tails,’ Spike Lee’s Red Hook Summer,’ and the upcoming Richard Gere film ‘Arbitrage,’ is in talks to join Lee again in the remake of the South Korean cult classic ‘Oldboy,’ states Variety.
If he does sign on, Parker will be joining a class that includes Elizabeth Olson, Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson and Sharlto Copley.
Based on the film that Park Chan-wook directed in 2003, this version follows a younger woman (Olsen) who helps (and soon romances) a stranger (Brolin) in his quest for revenge on a mysterious, powerful figure (Copley).
Parker is in talks to play the doctor who is a colleague of Olsen’s character.
His other film credits include ‘The Great Debaters,’. ‘Pride,’ ‘The Secret Life of Bees,’ and ‘Blood Done Sign My Name.’
The new ‘Oldboy’ was written and co-produced by Mark Protosevich (“The Cell,” “I Am Legend,” early drafts of Marvel’s “Thor”) and produced by Roy Lee and Doug Davison, along with Mandate Pictures’ president Nathan Kahane (Mandate is producing).
