Production has started on Dimension’s “Scary Movie 5” in Atlanta, Georgia with some familiar names coming back for more fun. Besides the casting Ashley Tisdale (“High School Musical”), Terry Crews, Marisa Saks, Erica Ash, and Lindsay Lohan, returning to the franchise are Charlie Sheen, Simon Rex, and Molly Shannon.

Directed by Malcolm Lee, this is the fifth installment of a very successful franchise. Lampooning the greatest in horror and genre fare, the first four films have grossed over $800 million worldwide.

Anna Faris, who played Cindy Campbell in all of the previous Scary Movie films, will not be along for this ride. She recently gave birth to her first child with husband, actor Chris Pratt (“10 Years”).

Despite numerous reports, funnyman Kevin Hart is not included in the film, but added to the mix is comedian Roland ‘Lil Duval’ Powell.

The Wayans Brothers started the franchise for Dimension Films until David Zucker came over and wrote and directed Scary Movie 3 and 4. Zucker is co-writing and producing Scary Movie 5.

The plot involves Three dancers — one veteran performer and two upstarts who are also best friends — vie for the lead in a new production from a snooty, aloof, imperious, and oversexed director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Sheen and Lohan will plays what is being described by the studio as “the world’s hottest new couple” and be killed in the opening sequence of the movie.”

Unless he’s playing a new character, Sheen would be reprising his role as the deceased Tom Logan, while Shannon would come back as his ex-wife, Marilyn. Rex appeared as Cindy’s love interest and Tom’s younger brother, George Logan in Scary Movie 3 and was briefly seen in SM4 in a flashback scene where his character had died.

“Scary Movie 5″ will arrive in theaters on April 19, 2013.
