Blackfilm.com has learned that Battle: Los Angeles star Cory Hardrict has landed a role in Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, Transcendence.

The actor joins Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Morgan Freeman, Clifton Collins and Cillian Murphy.

While the plot hasn’t been officially released, several sites have indicated that the description below is what the film will be.

Three scientists — Max (Bettany) and the husband and wife team, Will (Depp) and Evelyn (Hall) — have been developing a programming code for the world’s first fully self-aware computer.  When a group of anti-technology terrorists assassinate Will, Evelyn uploads his brain into a prototype supercomputer. Although she at first finds the experiment seems to have gone wrong, before too long Evelyn finds Will responding in computer form. She goes on to connect Will to the Internet so he can help make further scientific breakthroughs. Will asks Evelyn to connect a microphone and a camera up to the computer so he can see and speak to her as well. Will creates a backup of himself to every computer in the world, and furthers his work through accessing online indexes. When the anti-technology organization finds out, they try to steal the supercomputer and destroy it, but Will no longer needs the computer to survive.

Hardrict will play the role of Joel Edmond.

The script was written by Jack Paglen. Broderick Johnson, Andrew A. Kosove, Kate Cohen, Annie Marter, Marisa Polvino and David Valdes are producing the film, with Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Aaron Ryder executive producing. The production is by Alcon Entertainment and Straight Up Films.

Hardrict, who is currently in the nationwide hit Warm Bodies, will next be seen in the film Lovelace with Amanda Seyfried.

Principal photography is set to begin in May in Los Angeles. Warner Bros. will release the film on April 25, 2014.
