Star Wars The Force Awakens Vanity Fair Cover

Vanity Fair and its ace photographer Annie Leibovitz has created winning portraits of the cast from Star Wars: The Force Awakens with John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Chewbacca, a new droid BB8 and Harrison Ford gracing the latest cover. They also have a video shoot from the set.

According to the site, in addition to the blend of old and new characters on the cover, Annie Leibovitz traveled to the film’s set and photographed never-before-seen images of characters played by Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, and Lupita Nyong’o. The Oscar-winning actress is covered in C.G.I. tracking dots, revealing that even her most die-hard fans may not recognize her playing a purely animated character in the film.

Lupita Nyong’o is playing a motion-captured character named Maz Kanata, while Gwendoline Christie’s will play Captain Phasma, officer in the newly-announced First Order. She will be part of the First Order, formed out of the ashes of the Galactic Empire after the events of 1983’s Return of the Jedi.

More photos will be on display throughout the week.
