The diverse distribution collective Array Releasing is proud to announce a special double feature theatrical experience for its Fall 2015 releases. Beginning November 13, Array will open Sara Blecher’s AYANDA and Takeshi Fukunaga’s OUT OF MY HAND in Los Angeles and New York City followed by a national tour to include Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Seattle, Houston and Boston.

AYANDA AND THE MECHANIC

“AYANDA and OUT OF MY HAND are films that represent the breadth and width of diverse filmmaking. A drama dissecting love in all forms directed by a South African woman and a story of migration and masculinity directed by a Harlem-based Japanese man, both starring all-black casts, prove to be a powerful duo,” explained Array’s Executive Director Tilane Jones. “These are the varied visions and voices that Array celebrates and amplifies through our releases. We’re thrilled to showcase these films together for film lovers who appreciate distinct, robust storytelling from underrepresented perspectives.”

OUT OF MY HAND

AYANDA is a coming-of-age story that takes us into a vibrant Johannesburg community alive with love and humor, risk and reward, tragedy and triumph. Blecher centers the film on a young woman’s journey of self-discovery as she struggles to save her father’s car repair shop along with her memory of him. This film held its world premiere screening at the 2015 Los Angeles Film Festival winning the Special Jury Prize in the World Fiction Competition.

OUT OF MY HAND takes viewers inside the humble life of a Liberian rubber plantation worker. Fukunaga’s film depicts the severe working conditions, failed unionization and corporate corruption that drive one man away from his family and his country to the foreign streets of New York City where his past forces him to confront his sense of isolation and belonging. This film debuted in the Panorama Section of the 2015 Berlin International Film Festival.
