Deadline is reporting that Nikki Amuka-Bird and Phoebe Fox have been cast as the two female leads for the BBC’s highly-anticipated feature length adaptation of bestselling author Zadie Smith’s NW.

Set in the northwest of London, England, four locals—Leah Hanwell, Natalie (née Keisha) Blake, Felix Cooper, and Nathan Bogle—try to make adult lives outside of Caldwell, the working-class council estate where they grew up. While Leah has not managed to venture far from her childhood location, her best friend Natalie, now a successful, self-made barrister, lives in an affluent neighborhood in a Victorian-style house. Despite their friendship and history, the two women find that they are very different from each other socioeconomically. Meanwhile, a chance encounter brings Felix and Nathan together.

Saul Dibb (The Duchess) is directing the film from a script adapted by Rachel Bennette.

When the novel was released in 2013, it was one of the New York Times 10 best books of the year and was a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist.

Amuka-Bird had a recurring role opposite Idris Elba in the BBC series Luther and starred in Cinemax’s Quarry. She was also seen in the Wachowskis’ Jupiter Ascending. Fox had a supporting role opposite Aaron Paul in Gavin Hood’s Eye in the Sky and was featured in BBC’s Shakespeare adaptation The Hollow Crown with Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch.
