Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures has released several photos and clips to The Legend of Tarzan, which hits theaters on July 1, 2016.

From David Yates, the new take on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ jungle hero stars Alexander Skarsgård (“True Blood,” Battleship) in the title role alongside a cast that also includes Margot Robbie, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz and Djimon Hounsou.

The film begins years after the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.

Collaborating with Yates behind the scenes, the creative team includes director of photography Henry Braham (“The Golden Compass”), Oscar-winning production designer Stuart Craig (“Dangerous Liaisons,” “The English Patient,” the “Harry Potter” films), editor Mark Day (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Parts 1 & 2”), and Oscar-nominated costume designer Ruth Myers (“Emma,” “Unknown”).

Tarzan made his first appearance in Edgar Rice Burroughs’ 1912 novel Tarzan of the Apes. The jungle hero would go to be the focus of an additional 23 novels by the author. In the century since the character’s inception, Tarzan has been adapted into just about every medium, including dozens of different feature film iterations.
