Variety is reporting that Luke Cage’s Mike Colter has been added to the cast of Universal Pictures and Good Universe’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Extinction, joining Michael Peña, Lizzy Caplan, and Israel Broussard.

Directed by Ben Young (Hounds of Love) from a script written by Eric Heisserer, Spenser Cohen and and Bradley Caleb Kane, Extinction stars Peña as a man who must save his family from some kind of otherworldly phenomenon. Colter’s role in the film hasn’t been stated.

Extinction will be produced by Todd Lieberman & David Hoberman of Mandeville. Mandeville’s Alexander Young will executive produce, alongside Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake, Erin Westerman and Kelli Konop of Good Universe.

Colter, who stars as the title character in Marvel’s Luke Cage for Netflix, will reprise the role in the upcoming crossover series The Defenders. He will next appear in Malcolm D. Lee’s Girl Trip for Universal opposite Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Regina Hall. His previous film credits include Clint Eastwood’s Million Dollar Baby, Barry Sonnenfeld’s Men in Black III and Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty.

Extinction is scheduled to hit theaters on January 26, 2018.
