During the 2017 American Black Film Festival (ABFF), among the several highlights festival goers were treated to was seeing the first episode to Season 2 of HBO’s hit series, Insecure, which returns on July 23rd.

With series regulars Issa Rae (Issa), Jay Ellis (Lawrence) Yvonne Orji (Molly) in attendance, the trio came on stage following the screening to do a panel discussion moderated by Bevy Smith.

The series that follows best friends Issa (Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji) as they navigate the tricky professional and personal terrain of Los Angeles, while facing the challenges of being two black women who defy all stereotypes, as Issa and Molly stumble their way towards pulling their lives together, while trying their hardest to never settle for less.

Along with Issa Rae, Ellis, and Orji, the rest of the cast includes Lisa Joyce (Frieda), with Amanda Seales and Natasha Rothwell, who were promoted to regular status. The latter two appeared in four episodes last season.

The series, written, created, and executive produced by Issa Rae, is also executive produced by show runner Prentice Penny, and director Melina Matsoukas, who directed three episodes of “Insecure,” as well as Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky and Jonathan Berry.

“Insecure: The Complete First Season” is currently available on Blu-ray and DVD featuring all eight Season 1 episodes and bonus content, including an exclusive and extended look at the “Insecure” characters’ favorite reality show, “Conjugal Visits.” Rae was a 2016 Golden Globe nominee (Best Actress in a Comedy Series).
