ABC has brought in ‘Power’ Creator Courtney Kemp to be the showrunner for its pilot on Get Christie Love, a reboot based on the 1974 blaxploitation TV movie and short-lived series of the same name, which centered around an undercover black woman detective who is set to overthrow a drug ring. It is a co-production between Lionsgate and Universal Televisions.

Among the producers are Debra Martin Chase through Martin Chase Productions, and Vin Diesel and Shana C. Waterman through One Race Television. It is a co-production between Lionsgate and Universal Televisions.

Written by Kemp, the reboot is “an action-packed, music-driven drama that centers on Christie Love, an African American female CIA agent who leads an elite ops unit. She transforms into whomever she needs to be to get the job done, especially when it’s down to the wire and the stakes are life and death. The high-adrenaline missions of the series are anchored by an emotional mystery about Christie’s first love — unearthing the truth about this relationship will be the biggest mission impossible of her life.”

This is the first sale for Kemp and her production company End of Episode since signing a multi-year overall deal with Starz and Lionsgate Television in May. Under the deal Kemp will develop and produce new projects for Starz and other platforms. Kemp will continue as showrunner and executive producer of the Starz hit series Power, which marked her debut as a showrunner when it premiered in 2014. Under Kemp’s leadership, the series doubled viewership from its premiere episode to its Season One finale and generated the largest concentration of African American viewership of any scripted premium series in almost a decade. Power hit a viewership season high this year, with 2.0 million viewers tuning into the fourth season finale. The series will return for a season five in 2018.

The original GET CHRISTIE LOVE!, which premiered on ABC on January 22, 1974, was the first one-hour drama to star an African American female (Teresa Graves) in the leading role. A few years after Get Christie Love, she retired from acting to devote her time to Jehovah’s Witness. She died in a 2002 house fire.

Kemp is represented by CAA and attorney Michael Gendler.  One Race Television is represented by CAA, manager Stacy O’Neil, and attorneys Patty Felker and Eric Suddleson. Martin Chase Productions is represented by CAA and attorneys Nina Shaw and Laurie Megery.
