Step Sisters cast

Netflix has acquired the worldwide rights from Broad Green to the dance comedy Step Sisters (previously titled Ain’t No Half Steppin), directed by Charles Stone III (Drumline).

Deadline is reporting that Broad Green had planned a March theatrical release for the film, but in August said it was shuttering its production division, with about 50 development projects being kicked back to filmmakers to be set up elsewhere.

No theatrical release is planned.

Written by Chuck Hayward, the ensemble cast includes star Megalyn Echikunwoke (“90210,”“House of Lies”), Eden Sher (“The Middle”), Lyndon Smith (Secret in Their Eyes, “Parenthood”), Gage Golightly (“Red Oaks,”“Teen Wolf”), Nia Jervier (Dear White People), Alessandra Torresani (“The Big Bang Theory”), Marque Richardson (Dear White People, All the Way), Naturi Naughton (“Power”, Notorious) and Matt McGorry (“Orange Is the New Black,” “How to Get Away with Murder”).

Step Sisters centers on Jamilah Bisho, an ambitious black sorority girl (Echikunwoke) who, in order to get admitted to the law school of her dreams, agrees to cross cultural lines and teach the exclusive art of black Greek stepping to a band of wild, party-obsessed white sorority girls whose charter is about to be revoked.

The film was produced by Matt Alvarez (Straight Outta Compton, the Ride Along franchise), Lena Waithe (“Masters of None” series regular, Dear White People, Showtime’s “The Chicago Project”) and Benjamin Cory Jones (Hand of God). Broad Green Pictures’ Josh Reinhold is an executive producer.

The Director of Photography is Christopher Baffa, ASC (“Glee,” Next Friday), the Production Designer is Jeffrey Pratt Gordon (Wedding Crashers, National Treasure: Book of Secrets), the Casting Director is Victoria Thomas (The Hateful Eight, Straight Outta Compton), the Choreographer is Aakomon “AJ” Jones (Pitch Perfect franchise, How to Be Single), the Costume Designer is Lorraine Coppin (“Greenleaf,” Madea’s Witness Protection).
