TIFF Cinematheque’s Black Star Series to Celebrate 100 Years of Black Excellence on Screen From November 3 through December 22

From November 3 through December 22, TIFF Cinematheque’s Black Star series will be celebrating 100 years of Black Excellence on Screen, presented in collaboration with the British Film Institute.

Films included in the series showcase the broad spectrum of Black experiences and representation on screen and explore ideas of erasure, Black stardom and radicalization.

Films with Black actresses in strong leading roles include Carmen Jones, Stormy Weather, Imitation of Life, Lady Sings The Blues, Bush Mama, Set It Off, Middle of Nowhere, Jean of the Jones, and Annie.
