Pariah’ actress Adepero Oduye, who was in talks to join Steve McQueen’s next film, the period drama ’12 Years as a Slave,’ is now officially on board, states Variety.

Also joining the film is Ruth Negga, Scoot McNairy, and Paul Dano.  Brad Pitt’s Plan B shingle is producing the film.

Negga is currently on-screen co-starring with Samuel L. Jackson in ‘The Samaritan,’ while McNairy will reteam with co-star Brad Pitt after starring together in ‘Killing Them Softly,’ which just played at the Cannes Film Festival.

Based on Solomon Northrup‘s 1853 nonfiction tome, the New Regency pic stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as a free black man who winds up back in slavery in Louisiana, at a plantation owned by Michael Fassbender’s character. In the script the man’s wife hires a lawyer (Pitt) to fight for her husband’s freedom, and it seems safe to assume Oduye will be taking on that role.

McNairy will play a shrewd circus worker who masterminds the protag’s abduction, while Negga will play a runaway slave.

McQueen co-wrote the script with John Ridley (“Red Tails”). Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner will produce for Plan B.

Production will start at the end of June, and CAA is arranging financing for the pic in addition to repping its U.S. rights.
