2015 Film Independent Spirit Awards Nominations Announced

Ava DuVernay’s Selma nabbed five nominations for the 2015 Film Independent Spirit Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Cinematography. Leading the nominations is Birdman with six, while the other Best Pic nods went to  “Boyhood,” “Love Is Strange,” and “Whiplash.”

Justin Simien’s directorial debut, Dear White People, got nominations for First Feature and First Screenplay.

The nominations were announced by Rosario Dawson and Diego Luna at the W Hotel in Hollywood. The winners will be announced Feb. 21,  the day before the Oscars, in ceremonies at the usual location in a white tent on Santa Monica Beach.
