Andre Holland To Join Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo In Steve McQueen Heist Thriller ‘Widows’Posted by Wilson Morales

Variety is reporting that Moonlight’s Andre Holland has been cast in Steve McQueen’s latest film, “Widows, “ joining Academy Award nominee and Emmy winner Viola Davis and recent Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo (‘The Color Purple’) .
Produced by New Regency, the heist thriller will be written by “Gone Girl” screenwriter and novelist Gillian Flynn.
Based on the 2002 British miniseries Widows that was written by Prime Suspect‘s Lynda La Plante, the film is about four armed robbers who get killed in a botched heist attempt and their widows teaming up to finish the job.
Film 4 will co-finance the film with New Regency and it will license free TV rights in the UK. Iain Canning and Emile Sherman of See-Saw Films will produce the film with McQueen.
Holland is currently on screen in Barry Jenkins’ critically acclaimed film, “Moonlight,” and can also be seen on Broadway in the revival of August Wilson’s “Jitney.” His previous credits include Cinemax’s “The Knick” and “Selma.” He recently finished shooting Ava DuVernay’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” scheduled to be released in 2018.
