Simone Missick To Star In Nijla Mu’min’s Directorial Debut, ‘Jinn’Posted by Wilson Morales

Blackfilm.com has learned that Simone Missick (Luke Cage) will star in the upcoming drama, Jinn.
Written and directed by Nijla Mu’min, Jinn follows a carefree 17-year-old black girl, Summer, whose world is turned upside down when her mother, Jade (Missick), converts to Islam. The film is a timely, fresh look at identity, Islam, and first love in contemporary Los Angeles.
The film also stars Zoe Renee (The Quad) as Summer, Hisham Tawfiq (The Blacklist), Kelly Jenrette (Grandfathered, Pitch), Kelvin Harrison, Jr., (It Comes At Night, Monster, and Mudbound), Damien D. Smith (The American Dream), and Dorian Missick (Big Words, Monster).
Avril Z. Speaks of Sweet Potato Pie Productions is producing with Elton Brand, Mike C. Manning, Simone Missick, and Angela Harvey (Teen Wolf) serving as executive producers, and Morgan’s Mark Productions serving as co-producers.
Missick currently stars as superhero Misty Knight on the acclaimed Netflix series Luke Cage and the upcoming series, The Defenders. She is repped by Pantheon Talent Agency.
Mu’min, a Sundance Institute Fellow, will make her feature directorial debut with JINN. She pitched the film at the the Film Independent Fast Track Film Market, and was the recipient of a Panavision New Filmmaker Camera Package. She studied at the California Institute of the Arts (Calarts), and her short films have screened in festivals across the country. She was the winner of a 2014 Best Screenplay Award from BET for her script, NOOR.
