Through his production company Dowdell Film Company and Artists 1st, director Rel Dowdell (“Changing the Game”) has released the trailer to his latest film “Where’s Daddy?” – a new documentary offering perspectives on the child support system and the specific effects it has on African American families, with emphasis on the fathers.
Focusing on the African American community, Dowdell steps in front of the camera to interview a series of men who have been impacted by the system surrounding child support in various ways from financial hardships all the way to prison. As one of his interviewees relates, the meter doesn’t stop running while a parent is in prison and those dollars continue to add up whether that parent has a way to pay the dues in arrears or not. Thus, the cycle continues and spirals on.
Contributing to the film on camera are hip-hop artist Freeway, former Philadelphia Eagles Pro Bowl receiver Fred Barnett, comedian J’Vonne Pearson, journalist Mister Mann Frisby, Hall of Fame Coach Bill Ellerbee, educator Ogbonna Hagins, physician Dr. Ralph Smith, and many others.
According to producer Skye Dennis, the film is “meant to create a conversation and not a division between men and women of color.”
Produced by Skye Dennis, Justin Douglas and Maurice Floyd, the film is expected to hit theaters later this year.
