Blackfilm.com has exclusively learned that actress Deborah Ayorinde has been added to the cast of season three of the HBO’s anthology series, True Detective.

The actress will be joining Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo, Stephen Dorff, Scoot McNairy, Mamie Gummer, Ray Fisher, Rhys Wakefield, Michael Greyeyes, Jon Tenney, & Jodi Balfour.

The third season of the anthology series is set in the heart of the Ozarks wherein a disturbing crime occurs and a mystery that deepens over decades plays out in the three separate time periods.

Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will portray Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas, while Dorff will play an Arkansas State Investigator named Roland West and Wayne’s partner. Mamie Gummer will play a young mother of two named Lucy Purcell at the center of a tragic crime. McNairy will play Tom, a father who suffers a terrible loss that ties his fate to that of two state police detectives over 10 years. Carmen Ejogo will portray Arkansas schoolteacher Amelia Reardon, who shares a connection with two missing children in 1980. Fisher will play Freddy Burns, Wayne’s (Ali) son. Josh Hopkins is Jim Dobkins, “a private attorney in Fayetteville, Arkansas involved in deposing state police detectives in an ongoing investigation.” Wakefield, Greyeyes and Tenney will play recurring characters Henry Hays, Brett Woodard and Alan Jones, respectively.

Ayorinde will also appear as a recurring character, but her role has yet to be disclosed at this time.

The first season of True Detective starred Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Potts, and Tory Kittle, with the second starring Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, Kelly Reilly, and Vince Vaughn. Season 2 didn’t have the same critical success that the first one, although it did well in the ratings department.

Ayorinde appeared as Candace in Netflix’s Luke Cage Season 1 and was featured in Universal’s blockbuster Girls Trip. She recently finished filming Always & Forever, from filmmaker Christopher B. Stokes. She’s repped by Untitled Entertainment & CESD.

Executive producers on season three of “True Detective” are Nic Pizzolatto, Scott Stephens, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Steve Golin, Bard Dorros, and Richard Brown. Pizzolatto, the series creator, is serving as director, writer, and showrunner.
