Blackfilm.com has exclusively learned that Mike Colter (Netflix’s Luke Cage) has been cast in in the upcoming noir thriller Fatale, directed by Deon Taylor (Meet the Blacks, Traffik).
He joins and reunites with Oscar winner Hilary Swank, who was previously announced. The two appeared together in Clint Eastwood’s Oscar winning film Million Dollar Baby (2004), which netted Swank her 2nd Academy Award for Best Actress.
Fatale centers on a married man who is tricked into a murder scheme by a seductive female police detective played by Swank. Colter will play the friend to the married man.
Taylor is directing as well as producing alongside his Hidden Empire Film Group partners Roxanne Avent and Robert F. Smith. The screenplay was written by David Loughery (Lakeview Terrace, Obsessed). Dante Spinotti will reteam with Taylor as the director of photography for the feature.
Colter, who currently plays the title character in Season 2 of Marvel’s Luke Cage on Netflix, was recently at the Toronto Film Festival for the world premiere of his latest film, Skin, which he co-stars opposite Jamie Bell and Danielle McDonald. He will next be seen in the Fox 2000’s faith-based drama, Breakthrough, opposite This Is Us actress Chrissy Metz and Topher Grace. Another upcoming project is the indie film Stupid Happy with Alec Baldwin, Judith Light, & Mandy Patinkin.
Production on Fatale has started shooting in Los Angeles. Roxanne Avent will oversee the project for Hidden Empire Film, who is fully financing the film.
