ABC’s Freeform has released some behind-the-scenes commentary to Season 2 of hit series “grown-ish,” starring Yara Shahidi as Zoey, Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow’s (Tracee Ellis Ross) 17-year-old daughter from Black-ish.
Season two of “grown-ish” returns on Jan. 2 at 8pm, followed by another episode at 8:30pm.
From “black-ish” executive producer Kenya Barris, “grown-ish” is a contemporary take on the current issues facing both students and administrators in the world of higher education.
After the wide-eyed firsts of their freshman year, season two of “grown-ish” follows Zoey and her friends as they enter their second year at CalU with confidence and swagger. Learning from the ups and downs of their first year, they all assume they’ve got their second year on lock, but quickly realize that they’re not as grown as they think.
Reprising their roles after a stellar freshman season are Trevor Jackson as socially conscious Aaron Jackson, Francia Raisa as outspoken conservative Latina Ana Torres, Emily Arlook as openly and actively bisexual Nomi Segal, Jordan Buhat as troublemaker Vivek Shah, Chloe Bailey and Halle Bailey as twins and sporty-savants Jazz Forster and Sky Forster, Luka Sabbat as mellow and fashion-forward Luca Hall, and Deon Cole as eccentric and unpredictable Professor Charles Telphy.
Diggy Simmons will return for Season 2 in a recurring role as Doug.
In tonight’s season 2 episode, Zoey and the gang return for their sophomore year and Zoey is determined to make the “sequel” better than the original. She, Ana and Nomi move into a less-than-stellar off-campus apartment and have to quickly adjust to each other as roommates. Zoey is excited to see Luca again after a summer of keeping in touch via social media.
The show is produced by ABC Signature Studios and executive produced by Kenya Barris, Julie Bean, Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry, Craig Doyle, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland and E. Brian Dobbins.
