While promoting her newest film, Netflix’s Triple Frontier, which hits theaters today and stars with Ben Affleck, Charlie Hunnam, Oscar Isaac, Garret Hedlund and Pedro Pascal, actress Adria Arjona spoke very briefly to Blackfilm.com on her addition to the upcoming Sony Pictures film Morbius, which stars Academy Award winner Jared Leto. The film has started production this week.
“I’m leaving for the set after the (Triple Frontier) premiere. I’m getting on a plane and working all day Monday. I love comic books and I love my little brother. I’m trying to get sister points in every way that I can. I love the story of Dr. Morbius. I think it’s cool and edgy and interesting. That’s all I can really say.”
The second Spider-Man Universe spinoff after “Venom,” Leto takes on the role of Dr. Michael Morbius, a renowned biochemist who attempts to cure a rare blood disease by injecting himself with a treatment serum derived from bats and turned himself into a living vampire.
Arjona will be playing Martine Bancroft, who in the comics was engaged to Dr. Michael Morbius.
The film also stars Matt Smith as the villain Loxias Crown. Jared Harris was recently confirmed to play be a mentor role, and now THR is stating that Tyrese Gibson is in talks to play an FBI agent trying to track down Morbius.
Daniel Espinosa (Safe House, Child 44, Life) is directing Morbius from a script by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, the team behind Netflix’s Lost in Space remake. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce with Lucas Foster.
Arjona previously starred as Dorothy on NBC’s Emerald City. Coming up, she has Michael Bay’s 6 Underground, opposite Ryan Reynolds, and Olivier Assayas’ WASP Network with Penélope Cruz, Gael García Bernal and Edgar Ramírez.
