Nominations for the 66th annual Emmy Awards were announced this morning during a live NBC telecast at the TV Academy’s North Hollywood headquarters, and and Game of Thrones and FX miniseries Fargo scored the most mentions with a respective 19 and 18 nominations a piece.
Among the nominees are Kerry Washington, picking up her second straight nod for Best Actress in a Drama Series (Scandal) as well as Don Cheadle for Best Actor in a Comedy Series (House of Lies). Idris Elba and Chiwetel Ejiofor both picked up nominations for Lead Actor in a Mini-Series or Movie (“Luther” and “Dancing on the Edge,” respectively). Andre Braugher picked up a nomination for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” He’s won two Emmy in his career, 1998 Best Actor in a Drama Series (Homicide: Life on the Street) and then in 2006 for Best Actor in a Movie or Miniseries (Thief).
Joe Morton and Reg E. Cathey both picked up nominations for Guest Actor in a Drama Series (“Scandal” and “House of Cards,” respectively). Cicely Tyson picked up a nod for Best Actress in a Mini-Series of Movie category for “The Trip to Bountiful.” In 1974, she won Best Actress – Miniseries or a Movie for “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman” and then again 20 years later (1994) for Supporting Actress – Miniseries or a Movie for “Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All”
Angela Bassett received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie for “American Horror Story: Coven.” Both Uzo Aduba and Laverne Cox from “Orange is the New Black” picked up nominations for Guest Actress in a Comedy.
