Nominations for the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced Thursday morning.
Jessica Alba, Megan Fox and Ed Helms were on hand with the The Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the Beverly Hilton to name nominees in the 25 categories in film and television.
“Lincoln” leads with seven nominations at the 70th annual Golden Globes.
“Argo” and “Django Unchained” each had five noms, while “Les Miserables,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “Zero Dark Thirty” grabbed four apiece.
“Argo,” “Django Unchained,” “Life of Pi,” “Lincoln” and “Zero Dark Thirty” were nominated in film drama, while “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “Les Miserables,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” and “Silver Linings Playbook” were nominated in film musical or comedy.
In the sole director category, the nominees were Ben Affleck (“Argo”), Kathryn Bigelow (“Zero Dark Thirty”), Ang Lee (“Life of Pi”), Steven Spielberg (“Lincoln”) and Quentin Tarantino (“Django Unchained”), with Tom Hooper of “Les Miserables” among those left on the outside looking in.
For the single screenplay award, nominations went to Chris Terrio (“Argo”), Tarantino (“Django Unchained”), Tony Kushner (“Lincoln”), David O. Russell (“Silver Linings Playbook”) and Mark Boal (“Zero Dark Thirty”).
Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty”), Marion Cotillard (“Rust and Bone”), Helen Mirren (“Hitchcock”), Naomi Watts (“The Impossible”) and Rachel Weisz (“The Deep Blue Sea”) were nommed in film drama lead actress. For lead actor in drama, Daniel Day-Lewis (“Lincoln”), Richard Gere (“Arbitrage”), John Hawkes (“The Sessions”), Joaquin Phoenix (“The Master”) and Denzel Washington (“Flight”) were the nominees.
For film comedy or musical actor, nominations went to Jack Black (“Bernie”), Hugh Jackman (“Les Miserables”), Bradley Cooper (“Silver Linings Playbook”), Bill Murray (“Hyde Park on Hudson”) and Ewan MacGregor (“Salmon Fishing in the Yemen”). Their female counterparts were Emily Blunt (“Salmon Fishing in the Yemen”), Judi Dench (“The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”), Jennifer Lawrence (“Silver Linings Playbook”), Maggie Smith (“Quartet”) and Meryl Streep (“Hope Springs”).
Receiving supporting actor noms were Alan Arkin of “Argo,” Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz of “Django,” Philip Seymour Hoffman of “The Master” and Tommy Lee Jones of “Lincoln.” Tapped for supporting actress were Amy Adams (“Master”), Sally Field (“Lincoln”), Anne Hathaway (“Les Miserables”), Helen Hunt (“The Sessions”) and Nicole Kidman (“The Paperboy”).
Foreign-film nods were given to “Amour,” “A Royal Affair,” “The Intouchables,” “Kon-Tiki” and “Rust and Bone,” while animation went to “Brave,” “Frankenweenie,” “Hotel Transylvania,” “Rise of the Guardians” and “Wreck-It Ralph.”
The Weinstein Co. led all distributors with 14 nominations, followed by Sony Pictures with 12, Touchstone with seven, Warner Bros. with six and Fox Searchlight with five.
In TV drama, “Boardwalk Empire,” “Breaking Bad,” “Downton Abbey,” “Homeland” and freshman “The Newsroom” were the nominees.
Noms for actress in a TV drama were given to Connie Britton of “Nashville,” Glenn Close of “Damages,” Michelle Dockery of “Downton Abbey,” Julianna Margulies of “The Good Wife” and Claire Danes of “Homeland.” Steve Buscemi, Bryan Cranston, Jeff Daniels, Jon Hamm and Damian Lewis of “Homeland” duplicated their SAG Award nominations for TV drama actor.
“The Big Bang Theory,” “Episodes,” “Girls,” “Modern Family” and “Smash” were nominated for best comedy or musical series in TV. Lena Dunham (“Girls”), Zooey Deschanel (“New Girl”), Edie Falco (“Nurse Jackie”), Amy Poehler (“Parks and Recreation”), Tina Fey (“30 Rock”) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”) earned comedy actress noms, while Alec Baldwin (“30 Rock”), Don Cheadle (“House of Lies”), Louis C.K. (“Louie”), Matt LeBlanc (“Episodes”) and Jim Parsons (“Big Bang”) did the same for comedy actor.
In the catch-all supporting actor category for TV, nominees were Max Greenfield (“New Girl”), Ed Harris (“Game Change”), Danny Huston (“Magic City”), Mandy Patinkin (“Homeland”) and Eric Stonestreet (“Modern Family”).
Led by “Game Change,” the most-honored program with five nominations, HBO was tops in TV with 17 noms, as many as ABC (five), CBS (four), NBC (four) and Fox (four) combined. Showtime was second with seven noms.
“Game Change” is a finalist for top TV miniseries or movie with “The Girl,” “Hatfields & McCoys,” “The Hour” and “Political Animals.”
The 70th Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on January 13, 2013, by NBC. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will co-host the show.
