Poster For Netflix’s The King Starring Timothée Chalamet and Joel Edgerton

Netflix has released the first poster for “The King,” a new film adaptation of parts of the latter parts of The Henriad by “The Rover” and “Animal Kingdom” director David Michod.

Timothee Chalamet and Joel Edgerton lead the cast which blends Shakespeare’s two-part “Henry the IV” plays and “Henry V” into one narrative and changes the dialogue to make it more accessible.

Hal (Timothée Chalamet), wayward prince and reluctant heir to the English throne, has turned his back on royal life and is living among the people. But when his tyrannical father dies, Hal is crowned King Henry V and is forced to embrace the life he had previously tried to escape. Now the young king must navigate the palace politics, chaos and war his father left behind, and the emotional strings of his past life — including his relationship with his closest friend and mentor, the ageing alcoholic knight, John Falstaff (Joel Edgerton).

Robert Pattinson plays French prince The Dauphin, Ben Mendelsohn is King Henry IV, Sean Harris as Michael Williams, Lily-Rose Depp as Catherine, Tom Glynn-Carney as Henry Percy, Thomasin McKenzie as Phillippa, and Dean-Charles Chapman (Game of Thrones) as Thomas.

Edgerton co-wrote the script with Michod.

The King is being produced by Michod, Edgerton, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Brad Pitt, and Liz Watts. It is a production between Netflix and Plan B Entertainment along with Blue-Tongue Films and Porchlight Films.

Henry V was one of the most renowned kings in English history (1387-1422) and led two successful invasions of France, including his victory at the 1415 Battle of Agincourt and eventually “securing full control of the French throne.”

Following its festival runs, the movie will premiere in select theaters and on Netflix this fall.
