“Bruiser” is an engrossing short film that touches on severe topics of bullying, father-son relationships, and how violence can change your life. The main character, Darious, played by Noble B. Whitted, takes on a lot as a young child. After his father gets into a fight at a bowling alley, Darious begins to investigate the limitations of his own manhood.

At the beginning of the film, Darious is bonding with his father at a bowling alley. During his time at the bowling alley, Darious turns around and sees a girl from school having a birthday party four lanes down from him. His dad, played by, J.D. Williams, was upset that his son was not invited and confronts the young girl’s dad. Things take a left turn from there. Sundance Shorts Review: ‘Bruiser’ by Miles Warren

Warren successfully provides audiences with the ability to watch  “Bruiser” from a child’s perspective. We not only experience what it’s like to witness your dad in a fight but how it feels to watch others watch your dad in a fight that goes viral. I appreciated “Bruiser”.  This is a great film for young boys to watch. Audiences will learn that it is okay to feel bad or hurt when others are being mean to you. Do not be afraid to ask for help. There are people around ready to guide and make you stronger.
