Ben Mankiewicz talks ‘Citizen Kane’

Regarded by many as one of the greatest films of all time, there is a clear delineation between what was made before Citizen Kane, and what was required after. For hip hop fans, Citizen Kane‘s imprint on the movie industry was as culturally impactful as Rakim’s Paid in Full. We’d not heard anyone deliver rhymes with such complexity prior to Rakim’s delivery; his approach required a leveling up that directly influenced his successors including Nas, Jay-Z, and the Notorious BIG. Marking the film’s 80th anniversary, TCM host Ben Mankiewicz talks Citizen Kane with journalists, discussing its everlasting impact in the film space. Mankiewicz’s grandfather Herman Mankiewicz wrote the screenplay with Orson Welles, scoring the duo an Academy Award for Best Writing (Original Screenplay).
