The 97th Oscars® nominations were announced this morning with Coleman Domingo (Sing Sing), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked) and Afro-Latina actress Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez) on the list. Nickel Boys also makes the list for Best motion picture of the year. Actor-writer-comedians Rachel Sennott (Saturday Night, The Idol) and Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live, Wicked) made the announced live from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
Wicked has multiple nominations including Best motion picture of the year, Performance by an actress in a leading role (Cynthia Erivo), Performance by an actress in a supporting role (Ariana Grande), Achievement in costume design, Achievement in film editing, Achievement in makeup and hairstyling, Achievement in music written for a motion picture (Original score), Achievement in production design, Achievement in sound and Achievement in visual effects.

Also scoring multiple nominations is Netflix film Emilia Pérez including Best motion picture of the year, Performance by an actress in a leading role (Karla Sofía Gascón), Performance by an actress in a supporting role (Zoe Saldaña), Achievement in Cinematography, Achievement in directing, Best international feature film of the year, Achievement in film editing, Achievement in makeup and hairstyling, Achievement in music written for a motion picture (Original score), Achievement in sound and Adapted screenplay.
A few notable names not making the list this year include Zendaya who gave a jaw dropping layered performance in Challengers and Denzel Washington in Gladiator II. Both actors received Golden Globe nods this year but did not win the coveted trophy.
