Former supermodel Beverly Johnson has been cast in Tyler Perry‘s new film, ‘Good Deeds,’ where she’ll play the mother to Gabrielle Union‘s character.

The Buffalo, NY native made history as the first black model to appear on the cover of American Vogue in 1974 (August issue). A year later, she became the first black woman to appear on the cover of the French edition of Elle magazine.

Her previous film credits include ‘Def Jam’s How to Be a Player’ and ‘Crossroads,’ which starred Britney Spears and Zoe Saldana.

Perry will write, direct and produce the film for Lionsgate for 34th Street Films.

Perry plays Glen Deeds, an affluent and successful entrepreneur who’s about to get married when he suddenly becomes enamored by a down-on-her-luck single mother (played by Thandie Newton) who rekindles a spark that seems to have faded with his uptown fiancée.

Also included in the cast are Brian White, Rebecca Romijn, Jamie Kennedy, Eddie Cibrian, and Phylicia Rashad.

Shooting starts April 25 in Atlanta.
