It’s been 20 years since they last worked together, but Latino-Review.com is reporting that Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron will reunite for Avatar 2, which is scheduled to be released in December 2016.
The two have worked on The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and True Lies, which made $146M back in 1994.
In terms of Avatar 2, the first sequel will pick up after the events of the first film, when Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) permanently transfers his consciousness to his Na’vi avatar and begins a new life with Princess Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) after they defeat the human colonizers.
James Cameron told MTV NEWS
“It would be a continuation of their story and I expect that those nasty humans didn’t go away forever: ‘Oh, well that didn’t work!’ ” he said.
The site goes on to say that Schwarzenegger will be playing one of the humans in the form of a general. Back in August, it was announced that there would be three sequels to hit film. Josh Friedman would write Avatar 2, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver would write Avatar 3, and Shane Salerno would write Avatar 4. Production is scheduled for 2014 with the first film to be released in December 2016, the second in December 2017 and the third in 2018.
Since he left his position as the Governor of California in 2011, Schwarzenegger has appeared in both The Expendables and The Expendables 2, which were an ensemble film. In his first stand alone lead film, Schwarzenegger starred in The Last Stand, which grossed a dismay $12M.
Let’s hope this reunion with Cameron brings Schwarzenegger to the glory days he once had in the early 90s.
