After working together on Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Terrence Howard will be collaborating again with the director as Daniels has picked the Oscar nominated actor as the lead for his new TV series, Empire.
Written and co-produced by Butler’s Danny Strong, Empire is described as a unique family drama set in the world of a hip-hop empire. It centers on Lucious Lyon (Howard), a charismatic, savvy music superstar who is about to take his company, Empire Entertainment, public. Raised on the streets, he has never backed away from a fight and will resort to any measures, fair or foul, to defend his beloved Empire.
20th Century Fox TV and studio-based Imagine TV are producing, with Strong, Daniels, Grazer and Francie Calfo executive producing.
Howard’s last TV gig was on NBC’s short-lived Law & Order spin-off, Law & Order: LA. He’s also slated to be in M. Night Shyamalan’s Wayward Pines, another Fox TV series. That show debuts in July.
He will next be seen opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in David Ayer’s Sabotage.
