Making its World Premiere at the 18th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival in New York City is director Kiara C. Jones’ debut feature “Christmas Wedding Baby.” In this romantic dramedy, a bride-to-be discovers that her first love has been hired as her wedding photographer.
Written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Kiara C. Jones, ‘CWB’ is a crowd-funded production that will co-star Lisa Arrindell Anderson (”Madea’s Family Reunion”) Kimberley Drummond (“Hunger Games Catching Fire”) and Maria Howell (“Revolution, Devious Maids”) in an ensemble cast.
Christmas Wedding Baby will premiere at the 18th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival at the AMC Theatre on 34th St and 8th Ave in New York City at 4:45 pm EST Friday Sept 19th 2014.
Break out star of the film is Kimberley Drummond in her debut leading lady role as wide eyed romantic, Andrea. After recurring roles in “The Vampire Diaries,” “The Game,” and “Recitfy” Drummond landed a key role in “The Hunger Games Catching Fire,” before bringing her talents to CWB.
Sawandi Wilson, “Battle of the Year,” also takes on his first leading role as lusty photographer, Gabe.
Maria Howell co-stars as Miranda, the powerhouse matriarch with cougar tendencies and a habit of meddling in her daughter’s lives–for better or worse. Howell’s first film appearance was in “The Color Purple,” as a choir singer and has continued to advance her career on stage and screen.
Actress Lisa Arrindell Anderson, just off the set of “Drumline 2: A New Beat” plays the role of eldest sister and globe-trotting career woman, Lori. Actresses Frances Turner, Rita Manyette and actors Stephen Hill Jason Vendryes, Tad Jennings and Maba Ba, round out the ensemble cast. The film was shot on location in the city of Jacksonville, Fl by Cinematographer Leonardo D’Antoni. ‘CWB’ had casting assistance from Marishka S. Phillips and is produced by Ralph K. Scott and Kiara C Jones with Executive Producer Chann Harris.
Already establishing a proven record of success in the independent film industry, Kiara C. Jones was selected by The Huffington Post as one of 12 emerging filmmakers to watch in 2013. This year, Jones’ short-film ‘The Other Side of the Game’ premiered at Tribeca Film Festival as one of five winners in the Bombay Sapphire Imagination Series: Film competition.
