Tyrese Gibson 2

Having worked with Tyrese Gibson for over a decade with his role in the Fast and Furious franchise as well as his featured role in their other action film, Death Race, Universal Pictures is looking to have the musician-actor stay with the studio by acquiring an action spec scripted by Gibson and Mike Le called Desert Eagle.

The film centers on a pair of border patrol agents investigate a drug cartel being operated out of a Native American reservation casino. Matthew Stuecken and Josh Campbell have been hired to rewrite the script, which “Ted 2‘s” Scott Stuber will produce via his Bluegrass Films banner. Gibson will serve as an exec producer through his Voltron Filmz

Gibson was last seen in Fox Searchlight’s Black Nativity and in 2013’s Fast & Furious 6. In April, he will be reprising his role as Roman Pearce in Furious 7, followed by another supporting turn opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in the Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw. In 2016, he will star along with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube in the Tim Story’s Ride Along 2.

Musically, his next album Black Rose will be released May 5.
