Newcomer Jason Mitchell, who’s captivating audiences with his performance as Eazy-E in the blockbuster hit film, Straight Outta Compton, has been added to the cast of Universal’s upcoming film Kong: Skull Island, where he will reunite with fellow Compton castmate Corey Hawkins.
Variety is stating that Mitchell joins a cast that also includes Toby Kebbell, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly, and Tom Wilkinson.
The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures March 10, 2017.
The story will be set in the mysterious, dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the island. Although the specifics of the project are shrouded in mystery, Jason Mitchell’s character is said to be a pilot.
Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) will direct the film from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce.
